Ingredients
  

  • 4 large apples Honeycrisp, Gala, Fuji, Ambrosia, or McIntosh
  • 2 to 3 tablespoons pure Canadian maple syrup
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/3 cup rolled oats or crushed nuts walnuts, pecans, or almonds
  • 1 tablespoon coconut oil or butter optional
  • 2 to 3 tablespoons water or apple juice

  • Baking dish
  • Sharp knife
  • Apple corer or spoon
  • Small mixing bowl
  • Aluminum foil (optional)

Method
 

  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Wash the apples thoroughly. Core them carefully, leaving the bottom intact to create a cavity.
  3. Place the apples upright in a baking dish.
  4. In a small bowl, mix the cinnamon, oats or nuts, and maple syrup until combined.
  5. Spoon the mixture evenly into each apple cavity.
  6. Top each apple with a small piece of coconut oil or butter if using.
  7. Pour water or apple juice into the bottom of the baking dish to prevent drying.
  8. Cover loosely with foil and bake for 30 minutes.
  9. Remove the foil and bake for an additional 15 to 25 minutes, until apples are tender.
  10. Remove from the oven and let cool slightly before serving.

  • Choose apples of similar size for even baking.
  • Do not over-core the apples, or the filling may leak out.
  • For a softer texture, use McIntosh apples; for firmer results, use Honeycrisp or Fuji.
  • Maple syrup should be pure, not pancake syrup, for best flavor.
  • Serve warm for the best taste and aroma.
