Method
- Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
- Wash the apples thoroughly. Core them carefully, leaving the bottom intact to create a cavity.
- Place the apples upright in a baking dish.
- In a small bowl, mix the cinnamon, oats or nuts, and maple syrup until combined.
- Spoon the mixture evenly into each apple cavity.
- Top each apple with a small piece of coconut oil or butter if using.
- Pour water or apple juice into the bottom of the baking dish to prevent drying.
- Cover loosely with foil and bake for 30 minutes.
- Remove the foil and bake for an additional 15 to 25 minutes, until apples are tender.
- Remove from the oven and let cool slightly before serving.
Notes
Notes
- Choose apples of similar size for even baking.
- Do not over-core the apples, or the filling may leak out.
- For a softer texture, use McIntosh apples; for firmer results, use Honeycrisp or Fuji.
- Maple syrup should be pure, not pancake syrup, for best flavor.
- Serve warm for the best taste and aroma.
